Kolhapur Camp report


Nature camp to Khidrapur and sacred groves near Radhanagari and Dajipur.

Sacred grove or Devrai are the small patches of the forest protected by community with local deity temple. Earlier collection of any kind of forest produce or  hunting were strictly prohibited within these patches. Due to this such natural habitat can grow into a complex forest and can act a gene bank for rest of the area. But now due to rapid urbanization, changing culture and wrong plantation in devrai areas, these reprentative forest are getting lost.
During camp 6 different devrais near Dajipur WLS were visited.

Bird sightings include paradise flycatcher, common kingfisher, white throated kingfisher, yellow footed green pigeon and many more..
